3 reasons why Bitcoin's price is primed to hold the $30,000 level as support

Image
Bitcoin price has been showing weakness near the $30,000 level, but multiple data points highlight the fact that bears remain at a disadvantage. Bitcoin (BTC) price gave back some of its recent gains this week, but multiple data points suggest that $30,000 should hold as support going forward. Bitcoin remained within a narrow 4.3% range for the 15 days leading up to July 7. Despite the proximity of the $29,895 to $31,165 range, investors' sentiment was significantly impacted by an unsuccessful attempt to break above $31,400 on July 6. Trader’s tendency to overreact to short-term price movements rather than Bitcoin's year-to-date gains of 82% could be part of the reason for the short-term correction This same rationale applies to the events related to other cryptocurrencies. At the front of investors' minds are questions about whether the recent price gains were solely driven by multiple spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) requests. Other pressing developments inclu...

Why is BNB price up today?

Image
BNB price has rebounded more than 10% from its six-month low of $220 as short traders were squeezed alongside rising open interest. The price of BNB (BNB) is up around 3% today, in part due to bearish traders opening more BNB-tied contracts despite suffering losses via liquidations in the past 24 hours. In addition, BNB stands extremely "oversold," which may have prompted traders to buy the dip. BNB price bounces after being "oversold"  On June 14, BNB price climbed nearly 4% to $253. The gains came as a part of a recovery that saw its price rebounding 12% two days after falling to a six-month low of $220. From a technical perspective, BNB's rise on June 14 came on the heels of its "oversold" status. Notably, the daily relative strength index (RSI) dropped to around 16.6 two days ago, its lowest reading since March 2020. BNB/USD daily price chart. Why Bitcoin’s resistance to retesting the $25K support could be futile

Image
Bitcoin price continues to explore the lower regions of its trading range, but a drop to $25,000 seems nearly inevitable according to derivatives data. Bitcoin (BTC) has been trading in a narrow 3.4% range for the past three days after successfully defending the $25,500 support on June 10. In this time, investors’ attention has shifted to the macroeconomic area as the U.S. Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision on June 14. Cryptocurrencies might work independently from the traditional finance markets, but the cost of capital impacts almost every investor. Back in May, the Fed raised its benchmark interest rate to 5%–5.25%, the highest since 2007. All eyes will be on Fed’s Chair Jerome Powell media speech 30 minutes after the rate announcement as markets are pricing in 94% odds of a pause at the June meeting, based on the CME FedWatch tool. Crypto fears more than just a FOMC meeting The upcoming FOMC meeting isn’t the only concern for the economy, as the U.S. Treasu...

Tether market cap eyes record high after regaining 65% stablecoin dominance

Image
The market capitalization of Tether is nearly a billion dollar away from reaching a new lifetime peak while rival stablecoins struggle. Tether (USDT) has emerged as a clear winner amid the ongoing banking crisis and crypto crackdown in the U.S. On April 17, the U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin's circulating market valuation reached nearly $81 billion, just 1.5% below its record high of $82.29 billion from a year ago. It has grown about 20% year-to-date (YTD) already and is now eyeing new all-time highs. USDT market capitalization monthly chart. Source: TradingView Tether rivals hit new yearly lows USDT's growth came as Tether ate up the market share of its stablecoin rivals, USD Coin (USDC) and Binance USD (BUSD). That is due to crypto traders' belief that Tether's operations have no exposure to the potential banking crisis contagion. For instance, the circulating market capitalization of the USD Coin, the second-largest stablecoin, has dropped over 25% YTD to $31.82 bill...

$1.12B in Bitcoin options expire this week, and bulls appear to be at a disadvantage

Image
Commodities rallied as the U.S. Treasury struggled with the banking crisis, but Bitcoin bulls also overplayed their hand in this week’s options expiry. Bitcoin's (BTC) 43% rally between March 10 and March 20 surprised options traders and this is proven by the minimal14% of the $1.12 billion open interest set to expire on April 7 being placed at $28,000 and higher.  The positive price movement can be partially attributed to an increase in commodity demand, as investors perceive risks in the central bank's emergency funding programs, as injecting liquidity causes inflationary upward pressure. According to Urban Angehrn, CEO of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), if Credit Suisse had not been rescued, "many other Swiss banks would probably have faced a run on deposits." Angehrn added that, "there was a high probability that the resolution of a global systemically important bank would have led to contagion effects and jeopardized financial stab...

Ethereum price action and derivatives data confirm that bears are currently in control

Image
Investors are unwilling to add long positions as the Shanghai Fork is expected to unlock a significant amount of ETH over a short period. The price of Ether (ETH) declined 6% between March 2-3, followed by a tight range trading near $1,560. Still, analyzing a wider time frame provides no clear trend, as its chart can point to a descending channel or a slightly longer seven-week bullish pattern. Ether (ETH) price index in USD, 1-day. Source: TradingView Ether's recent lack of volatility can be partially explained by the upcoming Shanghai hard fork, an implementation aimed at allowing ETH staking withdrawals. Those participants were each required to lock 32 ETH staked on the Beacon Chain to support the network consensus protocol. After a series of delays, typical for changes in the production environment, the Shanghai Capella upgrade — also known as Shapella — is expected for early April, according to Ethereum core developer and project coordinator Tim Beiko. China's only public blockchain Conflux sees CFX price skyrocket 1300% in 2023

Image
Social media metrics show strong retail investor sentiment behind the ongoing CFX price rally. Conflux Network (CFX) is up nearly 500% in the past week with CFX emerging as one of the best-performing crypto assets in 2023 as China appears to be warming to cryptocurrency trading.  What is Conflux Network? Interestingly, Conflux Network, also known as Shanghai Tree-Graph Blockchain Research Institute, is the only regulatory-compliant, public and permissionless blockchain in China. Conflux is a layer-1 blockchain operating on a hybrid proof-of-work and proof-of-stake mechanism. CFX's price has rallied nearly 1,335% year-to-date (YTD) to reach $0.3254 as of Feb. 24, its highest level in fourteen months. In comparison, the combined market capitalization of crypto assets has surged approximately 45% YTD. CFX/USD daily price chart. Source: TradingView Why is Conflux Network price rallying? 3 signs Axie Infinity price risks giving up its 135% gains in January

Image
AXS price has formed a "gravestone" doji on its daily chart that coupled with its recent token unlock event hint at a potential bearish reversal ahead. Axie Infinity (AXS) has rallied 135% month-to-date to reach approximately $14 on Jan. 23, its highest level in two months. Nonetheless, the AXS/USD pair could suffer major losses in the coming weeks owing to a flurry of negative technical and fundamental indicators. Axie Infinity price prints "gravestone" doji The AXS price formed a "gravestone doji" candlestick on Jan. 23, which technical analysts view as a bearish reversal pattern. A gravestone doji appears when an asset's opening, closing, and the lowest price comes to be nearly identical except for the highest price, as shown in the chart below. The long upper wick shows that the bears pared all of the gains printed by the candle during the given session. AXS/USD daily price chart featuring gravestone doji. Ethereum price rally under question after ETH slams into resistance at $1.6K

Image
ETH price continues to encounter resistance at the $1,600 level, a potential sign that the current rally lacks sustainable momentum. Ethereum (ETH) price is struggling to overcome resistance at $1,600 and this is the altcoin’s third attempt since September 2022. Some would say the 33% year-to-date rally could be interpreted as a failed opportunity to breach the $200 billion market capitalization mark.  Ether/USD price index, 2-day. Source: TradingView If Ethereum price were to break above $1,600, it would return Ether to a top-60 global tradable asset, surpassing giant multinational companies like Nike (NKE), Novartis (NVS), Cisco (CSCO) and Toyota (TM). Unfortunately, at least for bullish traders, derivatives markets are not hinting that Ether will finally break the $1,600 resistance — at least, not until the U.S. Federal Reserve reverses its course of tightening the economy. Bulls' frustrations can partially be explained by Silvergate Bank's $1 billion net loss in the latest...

Bitcoin Santa Claus rally, unlikely according to on-chain and derivatives data

Image
Data suggests that BTC’s rally to $18,300 is the only Santa Claus rally Bitcoin will see before the year ends. As the coldest days of the crypto winter set in, investors’ speculative interest in the crypto market has fallen to pre-2021 levels, impairing the chance of a substantial directional price move. However, there’s a possibility of a bear market rally akin to the July through August 2022 uptrend. The market enters a state of limbo The FTX implosion impacted over 5 million users globally and adversely affected numerous crypto companies that were exposed to it. The industry is currently in a recovery mode and Cumberland, a U.S.-based crypto market broker, recently echoed this narrative in a tweet. The firm noted that "dozens of crypto companies are either severely curtailed or out of business, and the industry's future is as cloudy as ever." Data suggests that building a sustainable bullish move will be challenging because the market is pushed back to a low liquidit...
